Playing Differences

There are many differences between the two sports. Rules and general court size and ball differences!

1. Court Size is small then indoor courts.

2. Team size is typically 2-4 players rather then 6 players.

3. The Beach ball type is softer and lighter for beach.

4. Beach Volleyball Scores to 21 points rather then 25 points. With the third set at 15 points.

5. No substitutions are allowed in beach volleyball.

General Rule Differences

Beach Volleyball requires more improvisation and athleticism due to the larger playing area and sand surface, with each player needing to be versatile.

Beach Volleyball will increase conditioning for indoor seasons and emphasizes ball control and versatility of an athlete. It is not as technical and has a lower rate of injury then indoor volleyball.

Rules to Know

1. If you are setting the ball over the net your shoulders have to be square to the net and you can only set forwards and backwards. 

2. You can't catch and throw the ball over the net.

3. No part of the body, uniform, or hair can touch the net. 

4. You can cross complately under the net in an attept to play the ball as long as it does not interfere with play.

5. You can pursure outside of the playing area.

6. Beach volleyball changes sides every multiple of 7 points in games 1 & 2 and every 5 points in the 3rd set if played. This is because of the sun and to ensure fairness.

7. You can't open hand tip the ball over the net.

8. The ball legally can touch and be played off any part of the body. It can't be forceably kicked or "lay" on any part of the body.

9. You can not slap or hold the ball. Ball must leaves the players hands immediately.

10. When passing your hands must be together. If they are seperated on contact the other team gets the point.

1. Win by 2 points.

2. Best 2 o3 games per set.
